Peter drives home our identity in Christ by taking us back to our life before Christ and helping us so all that Christ has done for us. In doing this, we get a fuller picture who we really are and a greater appreciation for the Lord.

Christ paid more than a king's ransom for us. He, himself, was the ransom. In verses 18 and 19 we discover what it means to be ransomed and how that can send us into the holy calling God has for us.
We may not recognize how special we our to have the recorded history of the Messiah and have access to his beautiful salvation. The prophets of old and the angels of Heaven certainly do. Today, let's learn from their heart how to better value and desire the gospel of Christ.
Peter identifies himself in the opening verse of his letter and calls himself an apostle. This tells us much about Peter's journey and reliance on Christ and gives us some encouragement as we pursue our identity in Christ.
