Jesus Christ paid our ransom like a lamb without blemish or spot. Let's travel back through time and scripture to discover the significance of this analogy and theological truth!
Christ paid more than a king's ransom for us. He, himself, was the ransom. In verses 18 and 19 we discover what it means to be ransomed and how that can send us into the holy calling God has for us.
God is our father. How should this help us understand what it means to fear the Lord? And how does fearing God helps us conduct ourselves in the holy manner God has called us to? 1 Peter 1:17 is a good starting point.
God has called us to a holy life modeled after his own holiness. What does that look like and what does it mean that God is holy? Peter continues to encourage and inform believer's of their identity in Christ here as we study verses 15-16.
What are your former passions and why did they make you ignorant? As we approach a better understanding of holy living and walking in obedience with verse 14 we discuss the danger of misplaced desire and over desire for wordly things.
How do we ready and strengthen ourselves to follow Christ in an unholy world? How do we set our hope fully on him? Peter gets practical as he tackles these questions and leads us deeper into a holy life in verse 13.
We may not recognize how special we our to have the recorded history of the Messiah and have access to his beautiful salvation. The prophets of old and the angels of Heaven certainly do. Today, let's learn from their heart how to better value and desire the gospel of Christ.
